3rd annual gutierrez family scholarship dance
We would like to thank Del Rio and surrounding communities for the support given to our 3rd Annual Gutierrez Scholarship Dance. These annual events are a joint effort between Miguel A. Gutierrez/The Latino Coalition Foundation and the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The fundraiser event is being held every year to raise scholarship funds for our local college students that remain in our community to pursue their education. This year’s table sponsors were: GOLD level - Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College, West Central Net, Silver Eagle Distributors and Border Federal Credit Union. The SILVER level sponsors were: Ramada Inn, Alcoa, Dora Alcala & Alejandro Garcia, Cecil Atkission Ford Lincoln and Brown Plaza Association. We would also like to thank everyone who purchased individual tickets for this great event.
A special thanks also goes out to our guest speakers: Leo Gomez, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brooks City Base in San Antonio and our TX State Representative – House District 124, Ina Minjarez. Their personal inspirational stories were shared that evening and directed at our scholarship recipients for this year. Our 3rd Annual Gutierrez Family Scholarship Recipients are:

~ Karla Carrasco, SWTJC - Associates of Arts-General Studies
~ Sandra Colombo – SRSU RGC -Bachelor of Applied Science-Organizational Leadership
~ Sergio Salinas Davila – SWTJC -Associates of Arts -General Business
~ Melissa Sandoval – SRSU RGC - Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies
~ Valeria Vazquez – SWTJC - Bachelor of Science in Nursing
~ Gabriela Velazco – SRSU RGC - Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies
Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to assist with their education. This year’s scholarship committee comprised of Delia Ramirez, DRHCC Director of Education/ Event Chair (SRSU RGC), Dora Alcala, (Former City of Del Rio Mayor), Hatali Breckenridge (Plaza del Sol Mall), Michelle Guajardo, (SFDR CISD), Otila Gonzalez, (President DRHCC), Judith Montalvo, (DRHCC) and Maggie Roman, (Allstate Insurance) did a great job with the scholarship drive and planning the event.
DRHCC members who contributed with special pricing or donations: Happy Balloons, Nanez Sound and Lights Rental, Silver Eagle Distributors, Ramada Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Anabelle Escamilla and Del Rio Buzz. Our Wine and Cheese VIP reception was sponsored by: Texas Community Bank, Walmart, Dora Alcala, Otila Gonzalez and Wrights at the Lake.
To all of you who attended and enjoyed the great bands – David Marez, Marcos Orozco and Gil Garcia’s entertainment we want to give you our sincerest appreciation and we hope to see you again for next year’s event.
