![]() The commencing phases of the project are ongoing as the Hot Tax Committee for the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, who is spearheading the project, held their most recent meeting on Monday December 18, 2017 at City Hall. An overview of how the app is to be constructed was presented during the meeting by OnCell Project Manager Alaura Jacobs via teleconference. Jacobs gave a detailed explanation of how the contents is to be added to the app, as well as the various features that could be included to make it more visitor friendly. The vision behind the app is to try to increase tourist activity within the city said Hot Tax Committee chair Carmen Gutierrez. The DRHCC funded the project through its yearly Hot Tax collection, which is provided by the City of Del Rio. Gutierrez said that the bulk of contents that will be put into the app were shared by the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce. A list of ongoing events throughout the city will also be posted on the app. The city of Del Rio, who has partnered in the project, will be in charge of transferring the content into the app. Visitors will be able to download the app on their smartphones through the city website. They will be able to view and locate various attractions throughout town using the app’s directory. And a major feature in the app will be the accessibility of Google Maps with the included markings of all the restaurants and attractions. Local businesses will benefit from the app as users can be directed to their websites.
