 The Connie Mendoza Administrators Luncheon was held on Wednesday, April 25th. This event was in honor of Ms. Maria Consuelo “Connie” Mendoza. Connie was the Finance Director of the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce before her untimely death. She had a dream of hosting an event to show appreciation to the Administrative Assistants who play an important role in the success of the businesses in Del Rio. This year, we made her dream a reality. Mr. Gilbert Granados from the John Maxwell Team was the keynote speaker. We also presented the Administrative Assistant of the Year Award to Paola Rocha who is the Administrative Assistant at the HEB business office. The money raised will go to a scholarship in Connie’s honor.

The Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held their Monthly Membership Meeting on Thursday, April 12th, the IBC Bank hosted. Our guest speaker, Samuel Mqtash, who stepped in for Kevin Buford presented about opening a business and its challenges. Being new to the Del Rio area, Mr. Mqtash has to start from the ground up in our small town. Now a year later after facing challenges his business Orange Designs is successful. After Mr. Mqtash’s presentation about his business, attendees enjoyed light refreshments. Door prizes were donated by Ramada, Cripple Creek, Robert’s Jewelers, IBC Bank and Ueta. Door prize winners included Mr. Scarbo and Tina Martinez .
 On June 27th the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its membership meeting. It was hosted by Silver Eagle Distributors. Vice president Mr. Ayala presented our guest speaker Mayor Bruno Lozano. Mayor Lozano spoke about his hopes and plans for Del Rio. Being able to work as a community to put Del Rio on the map to be able to bring new business is one of his goals for our city. Our president Otila Gonzalez presented Mayor Lozano with a tourism t-shirt from the Hispanic Chamber and a bag of promotional items. The nonprofit group United San Felipe gave a short presentation about the arch that they are in the process of building at the entrance of San Felipe to commemorate the historical barrio. Afterwards the guests enjoyed networking and door prizes were raffled during the networking hour following adjournment.
