Your Del Rio Hispanic Chamber was proud to accept 2015 Small Chamber of the Year Award at this year’s annual convention held in Austin, Texas. President Carmen Gutierrez thanked the Board of Directors, the membership, and TAMACC’s leadership and guidance since DRHCC was first established in 2006.
Eighteen Hispanic Chambers were represented at the Expo and Convention which started with a legislative reception on Thursday night, workshops, Latina Empowerment Luncheon, and Business Expo on Friday, and the annual convention in which member chambers elected a new President and Board of Directors and Saturday evening Awards Banquet. DRHCC would like to thank all our business members for providing promotional items for the Business Expo and to Councilwoman Liz Elizalde for representing the City of Del Rio in support of our award winning program of work. Participating in the Business Expo promoting Del Rio/Val Verde tourism included Director Otila Gonzalez, Member and RSVP Volunteer Ruben C. Gutierrez Jr., Administrative Assistant Judith Montalvo, and President Carmen Gutierrez. In just one month, you and I will be electing a new Board of Directors and voting on Bylaw Revisions. Please save the date – October 8, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Silver Eagle Distributors to voice your vote and take an active role in your Del Rio Hispanic Chamber. We will have a fun activity to network as ballots are being tabulated. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the dedication and loyalty of current board members who have reached term limits and will be off the board for at least 1 year. The list includes Vice President Dora Alcala, Parliamentarian Al Cervantes, Director Sergio Diaz, and Secretary Paulo Pacheco. These four individuals have served in various capacities and have been directly responsible for setting our direction of growth and establishing a strong and diverse board. It has been an honor and privilege for me to have served with them for the past six years and I thank them for allowing me to complete my term as President. We have had so many wonderful board members throughout the years, and I thank each of you for accepting the challenge and making a difference. To all our present and previous board members – know that you make a difference. Look around and feel proud of what we all have accomplished with the support of our wonderful membership. I have also reached term limits and will miss the daily interaction with you. However I will remain in support of the new board and look forward to helping our community continue to grow. I treasure the fond memories of all our activities and our members who always responded positively on my calls for help. God bless all. Carmen Gutierrez A beautiful day was in store for the official open house of the Guatemalan Consulate located at 106 Foster Drive. Guatemalan Consul Jorge Archila welcomed everyone to the celebration, introduced Vice Consul Karla Orellana and all staff and outlined the services provided by the permanent office in Del Rio. Services available include issuing passports from Guatemala, identification cards, birth certificates for minors, marriage licenses, funeral registrations and other official documentation. The Consulate office also provide protection services for Guatemalan citizens and helps address any needs they have. Vice President Dora Alcala noted the Consulate provides wonderful and much needed services in this community. She also expressed that Del Rio is fortunate to have TWO Consulate offices (the Mexican Consulate and the Guatemalan Consulate) to provide the needed services. The Guatemalan Consulate in Del Rio is one of only three Guatemalan Consulates in the State of Texas. Houston has the main office and another office is located in McAllen. Dora also presented Consul Archila commemorative Certificate of Appreciation depicting the twin Eagles located at the Amistad Bridge, a landmark in this community. Consul Archila also thanked the community for the warm welcome they have received since they first opened their doors a few months ago. Consul Archila distributed Guatemalan gift bags to all in attendance. President Carmen Gutierrez also took the opportunity to present a New Membership Plaque to Michael Calderon of High Performance Roofing and General Contracting.
