![]() Each of us knows at least one of these individuals personally. Nursing is found in many professions and include school nurses, hospital and clinic nurses, dental nurses, home health and also at Nursing or Rehabilitation Centers. Each year, May is the month when nurses of all varieties are recognized and celebrated, as May 12 is Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These days and weeks of recognition are a way for nursing professional associations to honor their members, as well as to promote nursing careers to potential future nurses and for employers to recognize nursing staff. This year’s theme was “Delivering Quality & Innovation in Patient Care”, according to the American Nurses Association (ANA). DRHCC takes this opportunity to thank our members; Val Verde Regional Medical Center, My Home Care, Superior Home Health, and Val Verde Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the quality healthcare you provide in our community.

Power outages occurred affecting over 10,000 in our community. As the waters receded, residents took and posted photos of flooding, damaged and downed trees and power lines. Yet, just a short distance, only a few miles away, our sister city Acuña was devastated as a tornado touched down on the area known as Santa Rosa. Immediately, our citizens responded to a call for help as Texas Community Bank and The Bank and Trust began collecting monetary donations.
Collection sites for water, diapers, powdered milk and more were set up at various Churches, The Bank and Trust, Border One Stop, and the City of Del Rio Civic Center. LA Photo Productions also collected toys to bring smiles to children as they worked to clean out their homes. Mayor Garza, Judge Valdez and Councilwoman Elizabeth Elizalde toured the devastated areas. Councilman Rowland Garza helped man the collection site with Leno Hernandez at the Civic Center. U.S. Border Patrol volunteers joined many other organizations to respond with aid. It has been said that the bridge between our communities does not exist to divide us but rather to unite us. AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC) will honor 12 outstanding Latina business and community leaders at the fourth annual Women of Distinction Awards luncheon Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Four Seasons Hotel, 98 San Jacinto Boulevard, Austin, Texas from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. DRHCC Member Maria J. Martinez - BBA, President and CEO, Border Federal Credit Union of Del Rio was among one of 12 women honored this year.
It was fast and fun. Beat the Clock was the theme of the third annual Speed Networking event held at Doc Holliday’s in May. Members and guests had just a few minutes to sell their product or services to each other as they moved around the club, guided by announcer Carmen Gutierrez. Participants were challenged to be the BEST MARKETERS by making eye contact, using positive body language, using their name in the sales pitch, wearing their brand or logo, being knowledgeable about their product or service, to listen politely without interrupting, standing up straight to project confidence, managing their food and drinks, smiling, and most importantly, to work on building relationships.
At the end of the day, make that impression today that will have this person contact you tomorrow. Music by DJ Sergio Diaz played fun tunes that helped set a relaxed atmosphere as participants were stopped periodically to dance their stress away. Wonderful fajitas and tacos al pastor were served at the beginning of the event to make sure “hunger’ would not be a distraction. Judges awarded Best Individual Marketer to Elida Chavira of Speedy Cash (our 2014 Winner) and Best Group Marketing to Gilbert Mercado and Money Concepts staff. The participants themselves also chose Elida Chavira of Speedy Cash as the Best Marketer. If you have not met this dynamic young lady, you must stop by Speedy Cash on Veterans Blvd (across from the Civic Center) to find out more about her successful marketing skills. We had an abundance of door prizes which included wine, overnight stay at Holiday Inn in Eagle Pass, $250.00 Business radio promotion from MBM Radio, and a wide variety of promotional products from our members – Gracias! In a very special way, we also thank our sponsors for making this event possible: West Central Net, Pacheco Worldwide Automotive, Money Concepts, DJ Sergio Diaz, Brown Nissan and Doc Holliday’s. Thank you to Dave Galindo of Del Rio Buzz for the wonderful photos you can download from www.delriobuzz.com. |
