![]() The June Membership Meeting served as the official ribbon cutting for the New Horizons Women’s & Children’s Center. Quad Counties Council Executive Director Simon Sotelo and staff prepared a wonderful reception or those who attended this historic event. In attendance and recognized for their contributions to this project included; Val Verde County Judge Laura Allen, Mayor Roberto Fernandez, Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez, Mexican Consul Ricardo Santana, and representatives of the Border Organization/ Unable to attend due to a Conference commitment, yet instrumental in providing the necessary votes to fund the contract are all Val Verde County Commissioners. Simon also thanked Commissioner Owens for his hard and dedicated work in getting the shelter ready to open its doors. Ms. Cynthia Martinez, liaison for Congressman Pete P. Gallego also traveled to Del Rio to support the opening of the shelter. We also thank Miss Larissa Espinosa, Miss Texas Lone Star Latina for her presence and to every one of you who attended, mil gracias.
We had standing room only and your presence speaks volumes in support of this endeavor. DRHCC also recognized and thanked Mayor Roberto Fernandez for over 46 years of continuous public service, in various capacities, in our community. We convey our best wishes to Mayor Fernandez and Ms. Margot Fernandez the Best in their new adventures. New DRHCC members Fred and Kathy Knoll of Priva Print were presented with their membership plaque. Del Rio is such a special place to live and work because of the friendliness and helpfulness of its people.
